INTERVIEW WITH GIUSEPPE MESSINA
Here the first interview to our tattoo artists, to know them better and their peculiarities. Today we start with Giuseppe Messina, one of the pillar of Fronte del Porto in Rome since four years and a half.
How did you approach the world of tattooing, what has fascinated you?
I have been always in love with drawings and tattoos. Even very young in my area of birth, Sicily, I was always fascinated by these drawings “on skin”.
Remember the first tattoo you made?
The first I made it on myself, a small anchor and a diamond. I was so excited to try my first tattoo machine that the results was not the best.
What is your favorite style or styles and how has your way of tattooing evolved over the years?
I have always preferred the Traditional American, for the evocative and symbolic subjects and for the passion I have seen in the traditional tattooers I was following. Today I’m still in love with this style, giving my personal touch but, at the same time, respecting the rules of this deeply historical tattoo style.
What do you think of the world of tattoos today?
I think that today everything is changing fast, because tattoo has become a social “phenomenon” where ethics, commitment and love are still the keys to maintain passion high and love what I do everyday. I’m lucky because I can do what I like and I’m still driven by passion and willingness to improve every day.
At what point in your career did you become part of the Fronte del Porto family and what does it mean for you to work in this studio?
I joined this family in January 2014, a few months after the opening, and I have enjoyed this wonderful adventure from the beginning. Being here meant a lot to me: learning a lot, being part of the tattoo studio that today I feel also mine together with friends, because colleagues would be resizing.
What are your plans for next year?
My goal is to continue my journey and improve day by day, be present for my Roman customers to whom I owe a lot. On the other side I’m going to do conventions and guests to enrich my experience and learn from other colleagues and friends.
Do you have any other passion outside the world of tattoos?
My biggest passion is music. It’s always with me during my work and free time. I love to listen to live music and naturally while I’m tattooing.
